Survivor: Costa Rica is the eleventh season of Matt's Survivor Series. It was filmed in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The eighteen contestants, referred to as "castaways", were originally split up into two tribes of nine. The tribe names were Escudo, which means "shield" in Spanish, and Mariposa, which means "butterfly in Spanish. The merged tribe was named by the ten castaways who made the merge. It was named ???. After 39 days of competition, ??? was given the title of Sole Survivor, defeating ??? in a ?-? vote.
Two contestants from the previous season, Survivor: Morocco, returned to compete again for the money. Those contestants were Lane Ackerman and Cameran Bailey, who placed 10th and 9th respectively in Morocco.
??? was awarded the $100,000 Verizon Player of the Season prize, receiving ??% of the vote, while ??? and ??? came in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
